New York Rangers: 2 Biggest Surprises Of The Season So Far
Every NHL team has now played 20 games this season, so we are starting to get a better understanding of what to expect from them moving forward. There have been certain players who have been big surprises thus far and it feels fair to shine a light on them. In this series, we will be looking at two from each team who certainly can be classified as that.
In this piece, we will be looking at the New York Rangers. It's been a fantastic season for the Blueshirts, as they sport an 18-6-3 record and are tied for second in the Metropolitan Division. These two players may contributing at different rates, but have each been surprises for their own reasons.
Dryden Hunt: Dryden Hunt was signed this offseason with the expectation of being an extra forward for the Rangers. Yet, he's not only become a nice addition to their lineup, but also even a mainstay at this juncture. In 27 games, he has three goals and six points. Although he isn't dominating the scoresheet, he has even been given time in the top-six and has had his solid moments. He deserves praise for stepping up with Sammy Blais' season-ending injury. Let's see if the points start to go up in the process.
Chris Kreider: Chris Kreider is off to an excellent start this season, as he already has a whopping 17 goals and 21 points in 27 games. With this kind of production, he is on pace for a career year. Keep in mind, he scored a respectable 20 goals last season in 50 games, but he should be able to pass that total very shortly. With this kind of campaign, the Rangers certainly have to be considering him as their next captain.
