NHL Rumors: 2 Potential Trade Destinations for Jeff Petry

The Montreal Canadiens will be entering tank mode this season and it could result in several veterans getting traded including right-handed defenseman Jeff Petry. Let's take a look at some potential trade destinations for the veteran d-man.

Columbus Blue Jackets

The Blue Jackets continue to surprise this season and are looking to add to their roster as we approach the trade deadline. Columbus lost Seth Jones via trade in the offseason and could use some more production from their right-side of their defense. Unfortunately, for the Canadiens Petry is struggling horribly this season and after signing a four-year extension has only recorded two points in 24 games after putting up 42 points last season in 55 games. Montreal is expected to have to retain some money in the deal and Columbus would have some interest at a cheaper price than $6.25 million per season.

Nashville Predators

Remember the last time the Predators and Canadiens made a big trade involving defensemen? The Preds dealt Ryan Ellis last offseason and it's been tough sledding for their defenseman this season, everyone besides Roman Josi of course. Petry could step in and give Nashville a veteran who has term, at a reasonable price and can provide some offense from their back end. The Predators are in the middle of the pack at the moment in the West but if they end up closing in on the playoff picture expect them to add a defenseman and Petry would be near the top of their list.

As for Canadiens fans, sounds like they are willing to pack Petry's bags for him.....
