NHL Rumors: Chicago Blackhawks Shopping Young Forward

The Chicago Blackhawks are open to trading away young forward Henrik Borgstrom, according to Frank Seravalli.

Borgstrom is currently in the first season of his two-year, $2 million contract and will be a restricted free agent once it expires. The 2016 first-round pick should certainly grab the attention of the other teams around the league.

Chicago originally acquired Borgstrom in a five-player swap from the Florida Panthers. In 12 games this season with the Blackhawks, he's struggled a bit, as he has just a goal and assist. With that, he has a minus-3 rating, so it's fair to say he's been underwhelming.

However, he did show upside during the 2018-19 campaign with the Panthers, as he recorded 18 points in 50 games. He also had a 22 points in 24 games with the Springfield Thunderbirds that season, too. Furthermore, with HIFK of Liiga last season, he scored 11 goals and had 21 points in 30 games. He just hasn't been able to translate that kind of production to the NHL level.

Rebuilding teams like the Buffalo Sabres and Arizona Coyotes could find a player like Borgstrom intriguing. Let's see what happens from here.
