NHL Rumors: Penguins' Top-Six Winger To Test Market
According to Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey Now, forward Bryan Rust will likely be testing the open market this summer. Both parties briefly had extension talks, but they have since ended.
Given the fact that Rust has been a notable part of their top six over the last few seasons, it makes sense that he is looking for a significant raise from his current $3.5 million cap hit. It seems, however, that Pittsburgh isn't necessarily jumping on that.
One has to wonder if things cooling off between them could result in Rust being traded. It is never easy losing a player of his ability for nothing and they would get a nice return for him. The 29-year-old could be a nice addition for another contending team who needs an upgrade at right wing.
Rust has dealt with injury trouble this season, but when he has played, he's done quite well. In 12 games this campaign, he has two goals and nine points.
