Ottawa Senators Call Up Goaltender
With Filip Gustavsson and Anton Forsberg in COVID-19 protocol, the Ottawa Senators have recalled goaltender Matt Murray.
Murray of course was placed on waivers back in late November. It seemed possible that he would be claimed because of his past success, but teams opted to stay away from him and focused on the present. Thus, he was sent down to the Belleville Senators from there. In two appearances with the AHL squad, he has a 2.55 GAA and .918 SV%.
Murray has struggled mightily this season with Ottawa, as evidenced by him being sent to the minors. On the year, he has a 0-5-0 record, .890 SV% and 3.26 GAA. During the previous campaign, he went 10-13-1, while also having an .893 SV% and 3.38 GAA. It's clear that things haven't worked out for him since he signed his four-year, $25 million contract.
Alas, Murray will be looking to bounce back from here during his call-up. If he does, he likely will end up sticking with the NHL team, which would be a major win for both parties. This is the best chance for him to earn his starting job back. Let's see what ends up occurring.
