Tampa Bay Lightning Claim Veteran Forward

The Tampa Bay Lightning have claimed forward Riley Nash off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets.

When Nash was placed on waivers, some hockey fans wondered if the 32-year-old would get claimed. Although he has been held off the scoresheet in 15 games this season with the Jets, he does carry a very affordable $750,000 cap hit for the season. Furthermore, he is an effective penalty killer who has a lot of overall NHL experience. That likely is what made a contender like Tampa Bay be interested in him.

The Lightning currently have multiple forwards out, too, so Nash should be able to get into some action. Overall, it's never a bad thing adding depth, especially when it comes without having to give any assets up in the process.

Here's to hoping Nash can get out of his current cold streak as a member of the Lightning.
