Video: Blackhawks Connor Murphy Knocked Out by Alex Ovechkin Hit
The Chicago Blackhawks are expected to be without defenseman Connor Murphy for some time after he was absolutely crushed with a hit by Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin.
The play happened during Thursday night's matchup as the Blackhawks were visiting the Capitals and in the opening minute of the second period, Ovechkin came flying in on the forecheck and levelled Murphy into the boards.
It was hard to tell if it was the wind knocked out of him, or if Murphy had a head injury as he was visibly shaken up. He left the game and did not return. It's pretty crazy to see Ovechkin lay hits like this, there may not ever be a goal-scorer like OV who also can knock opposing players out with his body.
As for Murphy, he's appeared in 22 games so far in 2021-22 and has one goal and one assist. He's playing a big role for the Blackhawks defense as he's certainly a stay at home defender, recording 48 hits and 48 blocks, while averaging over 21 minutes of ice-time a night.
We wish Murphy a speedy recovery, this had to hurt:
