Video: Ian Cole Ejected For Kneeing Mark Scheifele
For the second straight game, a player from the Winnipeg Jets was the victim of kneeing. Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Ian Cole threw a dirty knee-on-knee hit to Mark Scheifele and was given a five-minute major. With that, he also was ejected.
Although Cole's hit was certainly a dirty one, Scheifele was thankfully able to remain in the game. However, although the star center appears to be okay, it seems very likely that Cole will receive a suspension of some kind.
NHL Player Safety just handed out multiple suspensions for kneeing from the Jets' last contest, too. First, Neal Pionk was handed a two-game suspension for kneeing Toronto defenseman Rasmus Sandin. Jason Spezza also was given a six-game suspension for his retaliatory knee to the head on Pionk. Due to this, it will be intriguing to see if NHL Player Safety remains consistent and puts the hammer down on Cole, even if it's just for one game. Consistency is not a word often used to describe NHL Player Safety, though.
