Video: Islanders' Chara Fights Devils' Geertsen
In Saturday night's game against the New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders defenseman Zdeno Chara fought for the second straight contest. The 44-year-old dropped the gloves with Mason Geertsen after the latter checked Noah Dobson in the head.
Although this fight did not have that big knockout punch, both parties did get in some good ones. That honestly isn't too surprising, however, as both players are known for not being afraid of engaging in fisticuffs.
One has to respect Chara for not only standing up for his teammate, but still being able to fight this well at his age. He clearly has a lot left in the tank in this regard, as he just beat Nashville Predators forward Yakov Trenin with ease a few nights ago.
As for Geersten, the rookie is already becoming well-known for playing a hard game. At this time, he has a whopping 31 penalty minutes in just eight NHL contests. Although it is certainly acceptable to play physically, the 26-year-old will have to learn not to throw high hits from here. We will have to wait and see if any further discipline is handed his way.
