Video: Islanders Pay Tribute To Robin Lehner
In Sunday night's game between the New York Islanders and Vegas Golden Knights, Robin Lehner made his return to Long Island. Without much surprise, the Islanders gave the 30-year-old a touching tribute video. In response to this, he pointed at the Long Island tattoo on his neck.
Lehner has been immensely open about his appreciation towards both the organization and the city. Although he only played the 2018-19 season with them, he thrived in blue and orange. As the video above stated, he has said that Islander fans saved his life. While on the ice for them, he went on to win the William M. Jennings Award and Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.
In 46 games with the Islanders, Lehner had a 25-13-5 record, 2.13 GAA and .930 SV%. Although he is under contract with the Vegas Golden Knights until the end of the 2024-25 season, one has to wonder if a reunion with the Islanders could be in order by the end of his career - even if it's just a one-day contract.
The game between these two teams was also a very entertaining one. In the end, the Golden Knights would defeat the Islanders in overtime by a 4-3 final score. Although the win was of course nice, the Islanders' tribute to Lehner was the true highlight of this contest.
