Video: Jets' Blake Wheeler Scores First Goal Of Season
In Friday night's game against the Vancouver Canucks, Winnipeg Jets winger Blake Wheeler finally scored his first goal. It was a nice one, too, as he found the corner with a perfectly placed snapshot.
Although Wheeler has had trouble scoring goals this season, he's still been effective setting them up. On the year now, he has the goal and 16 assists in 22 games. In fact, he's been on a tear these last five games, as he had a goal and nine assists in them alone.
However, there is something bad to address, too. In the game where Wheeler broke the ice and scored, he also left due to a lower-body injury. Following the contest, head coach Paul Maurice noted that "it's going to be awhile" before the veteran can return.
All we can hope for is that Wheeler's injury isn't as severe as Maurice fears. The winger will be getting evaluated Saturday morning. Alas, it was still good to see the 35-year-old captain get on the board.
