Video: Rangers' Igor Shesterkin Leaves Game Injured

New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin exited Saturday night's game against the San Jose Sharks early due to a lower-body injury. The young goalie would also leave the ice with the help of teammate Jacob Trouba and a trainer. He also did not put weight down on his right leg.

Head coach Gerard Gallant did provide a strong sense of optimism following the game, though, as he told reporters that the injury isn't as bad as it appears. From here, we will have to wait and see just how long Shesterkin's expected recovery time is.

Fresh off of signing a big extension over the summer, Shesterkin has played phenomenally this season. In 18 games, he has a 13-3-2 record, 2.05 GAA and .937 SV%. With stats like these, he is a clear Vezina Trophy candidate. He also is a major reason why the Rangers have been one of the league's top teams this season.

While Shesterkin is out, Alexandar Georgiev will be the team's starting goaltender. This is a big chance for him to turn things around, as he's been off to a poor start this season. He currently has a 2-1-1 record, but very low .867 SV%.
