Video: Rangers' Nils Lundkvist Scores First NHL Goal
In his 20th NHL game, New York Rangers defenseman Nils Lundkvist scored his first career goal. It was a beautiful one, too, as he roofed it past Darcy Kuemper with a quality wrist shot.
Lundkvist had a lot of hype heading into this season. The 21-year-old just put together a spectacular campaign with Lulea HF of the SHL last season. In 52 games, he scored 14 goals and had 32 points. With this kind of production, he won the Salming Trophy as the league's top Swedish-born defenseman.
So far in his rookie season with the Rangers, he now has a goal and four points. Although the points haven't come too regularly from the youngster, a goal like this one does show that the talent is there. As he continues to get used to the sport's most competitive league, we should see this from him more often.
Nevertheless, congrats Nils on your first NHL goal!
