Washington Capitals: 2 Biggest Surprises Of The Season So Far

Every NHL team has now played 20 games this season, so we are starting to get a better understanding of what to expect from them moving forward. There have been certain players who have been big surprises thus far and it feels fair to shine a light on them. In this series, we will be looking at two from each team who certainly can be classified as that.

In this piece, we will be looking at the Washington Capitals. It's been another dominant season for the Caps and they look like a team who is capable of having a deep playoff run this year. These two players have been playing the best hockey of their careers, so they certainly are worth discussing.

Nick Jensen: Nick Jensen is such an underrated defenseman and this season is showing that perfectly. In 29 games this season, he has scored three goals and recorded nine points. However, his offensive contributions aren't what truly show how stable he's been, as he also sports a team-leading plus-19 rating. He's looking like a legitimate top-four defenseman now and that's a huge plus for the Caps.

Tom Wilson: Tom Wilson just seems to improve each and every season. The 27-year-old a monstrous season offensively, as he has nine goals and 24 points in 27 games. This pace of the production is the best of his career by far. With Nicklas Backstrom back in the lineup, the power forward now has another great playmaker to work with, too.
