Winnipeg Jets Provide Update Regarding Blake Wheeler
Winnipeg Jets coach Paul Maurice told reporters today that captain Blake Wheeler will be out for multiple weeks instead of days. At this time, the veteran winger is receiving more tests regarding his injury. From here, we should get a better understanding of his expected recovery time.
Wheeler sustained his injury in Friday night's contest against the Vancouver Canucks. It was a very disappointing finish to an excellent game for the 35-year-old. On the night, he not only scored his first goal of the season, but also added two assists.
Wheeler is still one of Winnipeg's most important players, so they certainly are going to miss him significantly. It isn't the best timing for him to be out, either, as the Jets have a 13-9-5 record and are fifth in the Central Division. Although they aren't in a bad spot, the playoffs are not a guarantee with how jam-packed their division is.
It's been another solid offensive season for Wheeler this season thus far. In 22 games, he has a goal and 17 points. Once he is able to return, here's to hoping he can produce at a similar rate from here, but also get a few more in the net for himself.
