Arizona Coyotes Claim Veteran Forward Off Waivers
The Arizona Coyotes have claimed forward Riley Nash off waivers from the Tampa Bay Lightning.
This is the second time this season where Nash has been claimed by a team through waivers. Originally, he was placed on waivers by the Winnipeg Jets in December and scooped up by the Lightning. Now, the 32-year-old will be going from the back-to-back Stanley Cup champions to the worst team in the entire NHL. Yikes.
Yet, with Arizona, Nash has a good shot of being an everyday player. The Coyotes have a very weak offense, which should allow him to be a mainstay in their bottom six. He also should see some time on their penalty kill because of his defense-first nature, too.
In 25 games this season between the Jets and Lightning, Nash has zero points. He will be looking to finally get on the scoresheet with his third team of the season. At a minimum, he should be a solid mentor for the team's young players.
