Blackhawks Place Forward On Waivers

The Chicago Blackhawks have placed forward Brett Connolly on waivers. 

Connolly suffered this same fate earlier this season. As a result of him originally being unclaimed, he has spent the vast majority of this campaign with the Rockford IceHogs. In 16 games with the AHL squad, he has four goals to go along with seven helpers. With the Blackhawks, he's been held off the scoresheet in four games. He also received a four-game suspension for interference on Dallas Stars forward Tanner Kero, too. 

The Blackhawks acquired Connolly from the Florida Panthers last season. They took on Connolly's contract primarily to land former first-round pick Henrik Borgstrom. Furthermore, there was hope that he could bounce back, as he just had 33 points in 69 games with Florida the year before. However, he has yet to and likely will be heading back to the AHL again. 

Connolly's expensive contract will likely make teams pass on him again. The 29-year-old has been struggling these last two seasons and carries a $3.5 million cap hit until the end of the 2022-23 season. Therefore, we should see him back in Rockford from here.
