When looking at the fact that Wideman deliberately headbutted Boston Bruins forward Erik Haula, it isn't all that surprising to see him land a suspension. However, due to his otherwise clean record, it also is understandable why it's just for one contest.
It's also worth noting that Haula did technically start the scrum between him and Wideman. The 30-year-old forward put the defenseman in a headlock, which he justifiably received a penalty for. However, Wideman's response to that was too far - hence why he now will be sitting out Thursday night's game against the Chicago Blackhawks.
