The play occurred on Tuesday night immediately following a faceoff. Seguin first cross-checked Drouin right after it, so he wasn't innocent during the event. However, Drouin's retaliatory response was worse because he cross-checked him right in the head. Understandably, he received a major for it.
Had Drouin not been hit first by Seguin, we very likely would have seen him suspended. This is a dirty play, but especially when nothing that Seguin's head was the primary point of contact. Perhaps challenging Seguin to a fight would have been the smarter move by Drouin.
The Canadiens would end up getting a rare win against the Stars, though, as they defeated them by a 5-3 final score. With this, they now have an 8-25-5 record, while the Stars have fallen to 18-16-2.
