Capitals To Be Without Top Defenseman
John Carlson of the Washington Capitals has entered COVID-19 protocol.
This is certainly a tough break for the Capitals, as they have been on a bit of a skid. Over their last 10 games, they have a 4-3-3 record, which is low for their standards. However, it certainly hasn't negatively impacted them much in the standings. At this time, they have a 21-8-9 record and are third in the Metropolitan Division.
It's been another excellent year for Carlson this season. In 38 games thus far, he has eight goals, 24 assists, and a plus-12 rating. With numbers like these, he is currently sixth in scoring among all NHL defensemen. With this, it's apparent he's a real offensive force from the blue line. However, he also has been quite responsible defensively, too.
Although losing Carlson is bad, both Dmitry Orlov and Carl Hagelin have exited protocol. Therefore, the Caps will at least be getting two other players back.
