Islanders' Ross Johnston Suspended 3 Games
NHL Player Safety has suspended New York Islanders forward Ross Johnston three games for an illegal check to the head on New Jersey Devils forward A.J. Greer.
When it was announced that Johnston had a hearing with NHL Player Safety, it seemed likely a suspension would end up occurring. When looking back on the hit, it's clear that Johnston did make direct contact with Greer's head. The latter has also now been ruled out indefinitely.
This is Johnston's first-ever suspension at the NHL level. Three games is pretty lengthy, but it's clear that NHL Player Safety felt that this was direct intent with the hit.
