Kings' Phillip Danault Fined For Dangerous Trip

NHL Player Safety has fined Los Angeles Kings forward Phillip Danault $5,000 for his dangerous trip on Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brayden Point.

Clearly, Point was livid after being tripped by Danault, as the pair immediately dropped the gloves following it. It does look like Danault sweeps Point's legs from under him, which in turn, is what led to this fine. Yet, the league felt it wasn't dangerous enough to warrant a suspension.

We have seen other trips similar to this during the season. P.K. Subban has become infamous for them, but like with Danault, his slew foots were deemed as "dangerous trips," and he wasn't suspended, either. Players like Brad Marchand and Kevin Labanc, on the other hand, did receive suspensions this season when the NHL stated each of their similar plays was a slew foot. It's a topic that brings upon debate, and Danault's will likely follow suit.
