Maple Leafs Place Forward On Waivers
The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed Nick Ritchie on waivers.
This isn't what the Leafs expected to do when they signed the 26-year-old winger to a two-year, $5 million contract this summer. However, it's also an understandable decision by Toronto, as things haven't been working with Ritchie thus far. In 30 games, he has a goal, eight points, and a minus-5 rating. With that, he was just healthy scratched by the team, so perhaps this was predictable.
It's fair to say that Ritchie's been underwhelming this season. With the Boston Bruins last season, he scored 15 goals and had 26 points in 56 contests. However, he hasn't been able to come close to that kind of production this season. With that, other Maple Leafs forwards have been outplaying him.
It will be interesting to see if any teams decide to take a chance on Ritchie. Yet, when looking at the fact he carries a $2.5 million cap hit until the end of next season, it doesn't seem all that likely.
