Welcome to the third episode of Money on the Board, a daily piece to cover the NHL's best bets for each game night. So far I'm 4-1 for the week as we went 3-for-3 last night with Tampa Bay, Dallas and Pittsburgh getting the job done. Totally would have been a perfect debut week but unfortunately the St Louis Blues pissed off Sidney Crosby with too much time left on the clock.
Let's take a look at tonight's board where there's only a couple of matchups on Friday. First we have the Calgary Flames headed to Carolina to take on the Hurricanes as well as the Washington Capitals hosting the St Louis Blues.
Calgary Flames @ Carolina Hurricanes
Odds: Flames (2.55), Hurricanes (1.53)
Betting Factors: The Hurricanes are 10-3-0 at home, meanwhile the Flames own a solid 13-6-2 record on the road. They've lost two straight, meanwhile the bunch of jerks have won four in a row. Frederik Andersen appears to be starter for Carolina and has won his last five appearances, only giving up more than one goal once. Jakob Markstrom goes for the Flames and you shouldn't expect a very high scoring game considering how both teams play and their strong netminders. Carolina won their last matchup 2-1 on Dec. 9 and with Carolina being 8-2-0 in their past 10 games, it's hard not to sprinkle on the 'Canes.
My Pick: Take the jerks.
Washington Capitals @ St Louis Blues
Odds: Capitals (1.91), Blues (1.91)
Betting Factors: Both teams are without some key players as T.J Oshie, Niklas Backstrom and Anthony Mantha are all unavailable for different reasons for the Caps, meanwhile some COVID is bothering the Blues as Vladimir Tarasenko, Jake Walman and Scott Perunovich all won't suit up. Both teams lost their previous game and we have a road record of 10-3-3 going up against a home record of 12-3-2. Two teams that will be right there when it comes to Stanley Cup contention. One thing to note here is the Blues average 8.2 minutes in penalties per game and I have a feeling tonight Alex Ovechkin puts the Caps on his back.
