New York Rangers Waive Veteran Defenseman
The New York Rangers have announced they have waived veteran defenseman Jarred Tinordi on Sunday. The 29-year-old has appeared in seven games, collecting one goal and his contract is worth $900,000 on the cap through the 2022-23 season.
Tinordi is a depth option for the Rangers who has spent most of the season going up and down between the Rangers and their AHL affiliate Hartford Wolf Pack. He's a bruising defender who loves to rough it up in the dirty areas of the ice and isn't shy to drop the gloves and stick up for teammates. It's part of the reason he's stayed in the league this long.
The Rangers fan base is hoping the team will acquire Arizona Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun as the team has been linked to the elite defenseman. Moving Tinordi down certainly creates some room and there's been some push from fans to send Patrik Nemeth down next.
Once Chychrun (maybe) gets picked up and Miller goes to the 3rd pair he’s next……The whole NYR fanbase to Nemeth pic.twitter.com/UPJUK1sBc2

As for Tinordi, he's a former first round pick of the Montreal Canadiens who has bounced around in his professional career. With all the COVID absences league wide and with injuries on the rise, there's a chance he gets claimed on Monday at 2pm eastern.
