NHL Rumors: Flames Looking To Make 2 Upgrades
According to Dan Rosen, the Calgary Flames will be looking to add a top-six forward and puck-moving defenseman by the trade deadline.
At this juncture of the season, Calgary has an 18-11-6 record and is fifth in the Pacific Division. They trail the San Jose Sharks by two points for the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference but also have played six fewer games than them. The same can be said about the third-place Los Angeles Kings, but they are three points behind them. Needless to say, the Flames are very much so in the playoff hunt and have a chance to take a nice lead on those teams if they win their games in hand.
There are some rentals who the Flames could target. Some examples of forwards include Phil Kessel, Max Domi, and Claude Giroux. As for defensemen, the most obvious choice they have is former captain Mark Giordano. However, John Klingberg and Rasmus Ristolainen could also do the trick.
As we get closer to the deadline, don't be surprised to see the Flames make some big splashes. It seems like the right time for them to make some moves, and this is especially true if they hope to go on a run this postseason.
