NHL Rumors: Senators Open To Extending Goalie

Although goaltender Anton Forsberg is viewed as one of the Ottawa Senators' top rental candidates, they could elect to sign him to an extension instead, according to Frank Seravalli.

Out of the team's trio of goaltenders, Forsberg has surprisingly been the most consistent. In 16 games thus far, he has a 7-6-1 record, 3.01 goals-against average, and .912 save percentage. With these kinds of stats, the longtime fringe-NHL goalie has been a very pleasant surprise.

In 72 career games over seven seasons, Forsberg has a 22-35-6 record, 3.17 goals-against average, and .905 save percentage. When looking at a potential contract, he would likely still not be too expensive. He could be a strong backup goalie option for Ottawa for a few years, but with the way he's playing, he could even compete for the starting job.

Although the Senators are open to extending him, that does not mean that they won't still trade him, too. It will be interesting to see what the team decides to do on that front. Until then, here's to hoping the 29-year-old can continue to build on his very solid campaign.
