Both Sanford and Tierney are two more rental candidates from the Senators. We recently reported that teams have also expressed interest in Nick Paul and Anton Forsberg, too. That doesn't automatically mean that they will all be traded, but it's clear that there is a market for each of these pending free agents. With the Senators being 13-21-4, they should certainly weigh their options.
Sanford was acquired by the Senators from the St. Louis Blues back in late September. In 38 games this season, the 27-year-old winger has seven goals, three assists, and a minus-11 rating. It's been a down year for him, but he could still be a nice bottom-six forward for a playoff team. Depth is very important during the postseason, keep in mind.
As for Tierney, he also hasn't had a year to remember. In 38 games, he has five goals, five assists, and a minus-8 rating. He did just record 37 points in 71 games with the Senators two years ago. Before then, he had back-to-back campaigns where he had at least 40 points, too. Maybe teams will look at his past history and believe he could bounce back from here.
Nevertheless, with there being interest around the league, we now could see two more Senators players dealt by the deadline.
