Oilers Place Veteran Forward On Waivers

The Edmonton Oilers have placed forward Kyle Turris on waivers.

Turris was placed on waivers at the beginning of the season but went unclaimed. It seems likely that a team won't end up taking a shot on him this time, either, as he carries a $1.65 million cap hit. Although not necessarily expensive, it is a decent amount of money for a player who has been struggling this season.

Since signing with the Oilers during the 2020 offseason, Turris has had a lot of trouble finding his previous form. He had a five-point campaign in 27 games last season. Looking for a bounce-back this year, he only has a goal and three assists in 21 contests. He scored nine goals and had 31 points in 62 games with the Nashville Predators the season before, so his regression has been dramatic.

It will be interesting to see if this decision with Turris means the Oilers could be bringing a player in. There have been rumblings that they are expected to sign Evander Kane, so let's see if that's announced soon.

Until then, we will find out on Saturday afternoon if the veteran center gets claimed. Although it seems unlikely, crazier things have happened.
