Rangers Place Star Defenseman On IR
The New York Rangers have placed defenseman Adam Fox on injured reserve.
Fox was injured in Thursday's loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Following the game, head coach Gerard Gallant told reporters that Fox would be out day-to-day. However, this news means that he will be out for the next three games at least.
With the Rangers fighting for the top spot in the Metropolitan Division, losing Fox for any amount of time is negative. He's once again been fantastic this season and is building off of his Norris Trophy win quite well. In 44 games, he has seven goals to go along with 47 total points. He certainly is in the running to repeat as the winner, too. He is already tied with last year's point totals but has played in 11 fewer games. Sadly, now his season has to be put on pause.
In response to this news, the Rangers have recalled Nils Lundkvist. The rookie defenseman will be looking to impress to earn his spot back on the bottom pair. In 25 games, he has a goal and four points. Along with him, the team also has placed Tim Gettinger on the active roster. In five games with the Blueshirts this year, he has yet to record a point.
Alas, here's to hoping Fox can return once he reaches the minimum amount of time on IR.
