Senators Provide Update On Drake Batherson
Ottawa Senators head coach D.J. Smith told reporters on Thursday that Drake Batherson will be out for a "couple months" due to a high ankle sprain.
Batherson was injured after he unexpectedly received a dirty hit from Buffalo Sabres goaltender Aaron Dell. Following the play, Batherson was helped off the ice and Smith told reporters after the game that it would be a long-term injury. Now, we have a better idea of how long he will miss and the specific details of the injury. Dell, on the other hand, rightfully received a three-game suspension from NHL Player Safety.
Batherson's injury unfortunately will be taking him out of this year's All-Star Game. It's certainly disappointing to hear, as this was going to be his first time there. However, that now has been ruined. Yet, when looking at how well he's been playing, this shouldn't be his only chance to do so.
In 31 games this season, Batherson has 13 goals to go along with 34 total points. Thus, he has been having himself a fantastic season and is emerging into a star before our eyes. However, his marvelous progression will now have to be put on pause.
Alas, here's to hoping the 23-year-old forward will be able to return to the ice again before the end of the season. He's been quite fun to watch.
