Vancouver Canucks Hire New General Manager
The Vancouver Canucks have named Patrik Allvin as the team's new general manager.
This news comes almost two months after the team fired former GM Jim Benning. Allvin is now set to take over a Vancouver team that has plenty of tough decisions to make from here. At this point of the season, they have an 18-19-5 record and appear to be set to be sellers at the deadline. Thus, we could see Allvin make some moves early on in his tenure.
Allvin does have some experience as being a general manager. After Jim Rutherford left the Pittsburgh Penguins last year, Allvin took over as interim GM. However, that came to an end after a month, as the team quickly hired Ron Hextall. Previously, he also was a scout for the Montreal Canadiens and director of European scouting for the Penguins.
Rutherford and Allvin have a long history together so that understandably played a major role in this hiring.
This news comes just two days after the Canucks hired Emilie Castonguay as the first female assistant general manager in franchise history. Allvin will certainly benefit from working with her, as she has a strong resume, too. She's a former player agent who worked with several professional hockey players from multiple leagues. Some NHLers she represented include Mathieu Joseph, Pierre-Oliver Joseph, and Antoine Roussel.
Alas, now that Vancouver has their general manager situation addressed, let's see what's next in store for the team.
