Video: Oilers' Mike Smith Knocks Puck Into Own Net
In the first period of Wednesday night's contest between the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs, William Nylander initially missed the net with a wrist shot. However, it ended up working out in his favor, as Mike Smith would accidentally knock the puck into his own net.
Nylander has been on fire this season, and although this goal was not the prettiest, it does help pad his statistics. He now has 16 goals and is only in his 32nd game of the season. Along with that, he currently has an impressive 19 assists.
Smith shouldn't receive too much criticism for this goal, as it was just an unfortunate bounce for the 39-year-old goaltender. However, it certainly wasn't the best break for the struggling Oilers. They are desperately trying to turn things around, as they are 2-6-2 over their last 10 games.
Nevertheless, it's always a confidence booster to get a lucky goal, so let's see how Nylander performs from here. As for Smith, here's to hoping some good luck comes his way. It's been a difficult year for the veteran.
