Video: Penguins Score Six Goals In First Period
During the first period of Sunday afternoon's game against the San Jose Sharks, the Pittsburgh Penguins absolutely exploded. In the period alone, they scored a whopping six goals. Evan Rodrigues and Bryan Rust each scored two, while Jake Guentzel and Kasper Bjorkqvist also joined in the fun.
However, the Penguins didn't stay that dominant throughout the contest, as the Sharks refused to quit. After being down 6-1, the Sharks went on to score four unanswered goals of their own to make it a 6-5 game. Yet, Rodrigues and Rust each would record their hat trick goals to make the Penguins win by an 8-5 final score.
Speaking of Rust, this was his first game since November 24th. Needless to say, the 29-year-old winger clearly is feeling much better, as he completely dominated this contest. As for Rodrigues, his magical season is continuing. He now has 13 goals and 26 points in just 30 games.
Although the Penguins almost had an epic collapse, they were able to make up for it in the end. However, it's a red flag to pay attention as the season progresses. Six goals in the first period, though?! That's not just even fair.
