Video: Tom Wilson Injures Anton Blidh With Massive Hit
Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson is known for dishing out physical punishment on the ice, often skirting the line between legal and illegal, as the 6'4" power forward has had a number of fines and suspensions throughout his career. The Capitals visited the Bruins Thursday night, with the hometown Bruins prevailing 4-3 thanks to a late 3rd-period goal by Charlie McAvoy, but the Capitals aren't leaving Boston without sending a serious message as both Brad Marchand and Anton Blidh were knocked out of the game with injuries, and did not return.
Here is the hit on Blidh, which occurred late in the first period:
Despite the injury and Wilson's reputation, don't expect much to come out of this from the NHL's Department of Player Safety. Good hit, bad result, but Wilson shouldn't be punished for playing his role. The Capitals' next game is on Saturday against the Senators, while the Bruins host the Winnipeg Jets on the same day.
Stay tuned for updates on Anton Blidh's status as it becomes available.
