Anaheim Ducks Fire Long-Time Executive

With Pat Verbeek recently named general manager of the Anaheim Ducks it was expected there would be an evaluation process for the rest of the management team and those sweeping changes have begun. The Ducks have fired assistant general manager Dave Nonis. 

Eric Stephens of the Athletic was the first to report the news as the news dropped Sunday morning. Nonis is an experienced executive who was in the final season of his contract with Anaheim and when he wasn't named the general manager after the recent interview process, the writing was on the wall.

Along with Anaheim, Nonis has worked with the Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs, usually under mentor Brian Burke in a tandem role. Once Verbeek was hired in Anaheim the team also brought in Scott Niedermayer in a senior advisor role and now with Nonis gone the likes of Martin Madden and Jeff Solomon will tag team the assistant GM role.

Nonis had been with the Ducks organization since 2015 and will likely catch on with another club before the season's over. The Ducks sit with a 24-19-9 record on the year and will try and exceed expectations this season by making the postseason.
