Canucks Place Forward On Waivers
The Vancouver Canucks have placed forward Justin Dowling on waivers.
Dowling is currently in his first season with the Canucks after playing the previous four with the Dallas Stars. In 22 games with Vancouver on the campaign, he has two goals, two assists, and a minus-3 rating. The 31-year-old hasn't been particularly dominant but has had some decent moments when called upon by the Canucks.
Although Dowling is in his 30s, he only has 98 career games of NHL experience between the Stars and Canucks. With them, he has six goals, 12 assists, 18 points, and a minus-14 rating. However, if he goes unclaimed on waivers, he will be joining the Abbotsford Canucks of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Dowling just signed a two-year, $1.5 million contract with the Canucks during the offseason, so it is hard to determine if he will get claimed. Even with his cap hit being at only $750,000, it's questionable whether a team would be open to committing another year to the depth forward.
Alas, time will tell what happens with Dowling. He is capable of playing both center and left wing, so perhaps his versatility could make a team want to claim him.
