Canucks President Comments on Ongoing Trade Rumors

When Jim Rutherford joined the Vancouver Canucks as their president of hockey operations the team was under performing and the trade buzz was running wild. While the Canucks have turned things around on the ice thanks in large part to new head coach Bruce Boudreau, the buzz off the ice has continued. Rutherford has certainly heard all the trade rumors and while he thinks it's great for the game, he wasn't shy to shoot down some of the speculation.

Rutherford met with Scott Burnside of Daily Faceoff and had this to say on the trade rumors surrounding their group:

Well, we’re in a position that we don’t have to feel any pressure this year because we don’t have top players where they’re going to be UFAs. So there’s no urgency here to make those kinds of decisions. Our decisions will be made step by step as to what we think is best for the franchise now and in the future. It wouldn’t be as comfortable if we were sitting here with a couple of our top players going to be UFAs that would put a lot of pressure on the staff and we’re not in that position, so that’s good.

While the phones been ringing off the hook, it doesn't sound like Rutherford is too anxious to make any major moves before the March 21 trade deadline. J.T Miller and Brock Boeser continue to be the two players teams are calling about and it will be interesting to see if Vancouver misses the playoffs this season what the summer looks like for Rutherford and company. For now, sounds like their content to stand pat.
