Coyotes Sign Defenseman To Contract Extension
Mayo has been a pleasant surprise for the Coyotes this season. The 25-year-old rookie has cemented himself a spot in the team's top six and is continuing to show signs of improvement. In 42 games, he has three goals, three assists, and a minus-7 rating. Although he hasn't been dominating the scoresheet, his defensive play has been strong enough to allow him to stick with the NHL squad.
Mayo has become a mainstay on the team's penalty kill because of his overall stability in his own zone, too. With that, he also leads all Coyotes defensemen in hits with 63 and also has a team-leading 83 blocked shots on the year.
With the Coyotes expected to make multiple moves at the deadline, it's clear that Mayo won't be a player traded. Instead, he appears to be a part of their future after this extension. Let's see how the rookie continues to play from here.
