Stone is forced to be sidelined due to a back injury. With him being placed on LTIR, his $9.5 million cap hit will now be off the books. This, in turn, will allow the Golden Knights to activate both Jack Eichel and Alec Martinez with ease in the short term. However, if he is out until the playoffs, they won't have to move any salary out, as there's no salary cap during them. Yet, if he does come back before then, they will have to make trades to become cap compliant.
Stone will certainly be missed in the Golden Knights' lineup. In 28 games thus far, the captain has eight goals, 20 assists, and a plus-7 rating. However, he has cooled off a bit over his last five games, as he had just two points during that stretch. Here's to hoping this time off helps the 29-year-old feel better.
At a minimum, Stone must miss at least 10 games and 24 total days of the season. However, let's be honest - it'll probably be longer given their salary cap situation.
