Maple Leafs Assign Defenseman To AHL

The Toronto Maple Leafs have assigned Rasmus Sandin to the AHL.

The Leafs had to move at least one player to the minors, as they needed to become cap compliant by 5 PM Sunday. Although Sandin is the player sent down right now, there's a good chance he will be back with the NHL team shortly. Ryan Dzingel is expected to be placed on waivers, so they should be able to fit Sandin right back into their roster - whether the former gets claimed or clears waivers.

In 42 games this season, Sandin has two goals, 10 assists, and a plus-7 rating. This is the most amount of action the 2018 first-round pick has gotten during his NHL career thus far, and it's fair to state that he is taking advantage of it. However, due to the team's lack of salary cap room and him being ineligible to be placed on waivers, it makes sense that he is heading back to the Marlies.

Alas, Sandin should be back with the Leafs very shortly.
