Maple Leafs Auston Matthews Leaves Game After Knee to the Head
Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Auston Matthews left Monday's night contest against the Carolina Hurricanes after he was accidently kneed in the side of the head by 'Canes defenseman Brett Pesce.
The play happened late in the third period of a 2-2 game as Toronto and Carolina provided fans, mostly at home, with one of the most entertaining games of the season. Unfortunately this scene towards the end of the game had the Leafs shook and rightfully so. Matthews was down for a considerable amount of time after leaving the ice on his own accord, which was a great sign.
There was no update given by Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe after the game and it sounds like for now, this is a day-to-day matter. Matthews was on the board Monday and now has 31 goals and 53 points in 40 games. He won't be at Leafs practice on Tuesday but that was already known as the team wanted to give him a scheduled day off after a busy all-star weekend in Vegas. Here's the play from Monday:
