On Wednesday, the Capitals announced that Ovechkin was placed in COVID protocol and would have to miss the event as a result of it. However, Wilson will now be stepping in for him, so Washington fans are probably still a bit happy. Opposing fans, on the other hand, may not be feeling as happy about it.
This is a bit of a surprising pick, but Wilson has made a case for himself this year. He's having a very solid season and the truth is in his stats. In 42 games, he has 13 goals, 18 assists, and a plus-10 rating. With these kinds of numbers, he's on pace to set new career highs, too. It's safe to say that he has become a very good power forward over the years, and now he is being rewarded for that by playing in his first All-Star Game.
The Metropolitan Division had many other acceptable players to choose from, but the NHL felt Wilson was the most deserving out of the bunch. Do you feel that they made the right call? Let us know in the comments!
