It is extremely rare for the Bruins and Canadiens to trade with each other. Yet, with the way the latter's season has gone, they may be willing to ignore their longtime rivalry. With Chiarot being a pending unrestricted free agent, Montreal understandably is shopping him and looking for the best return possible. Maybe Boston can offer them just that.
The Bruins have been searching for an upgrade for the left side of their defensive group, so it makes sense that they are at least considering Chiarot. Furthermore, they also are in need of a bit more bite in their lineup, and he would provide them with just that.
In 44 games this season, Chiarot has five goals and four assists. He isn't known for his offensive game, but rather his hard-nosed style of play and defense-first kind of nature. When looking at the Bruins' current lineup, he could be a strong fit for their top four if acquired.
The Bruins are just one of many playoff teams interested in Chiarot, so it will be fun to see where the 30-year-old ends up. Yet, right now, the sweepstakes is continuing to grow.
