NHL Rumors: Bruins Linked To Red Wings Defenseman
According to Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now, the Boston Bruins are interested in Detroit Red Wings defenseman Nick Leddy.
The Bruins could use a top-four defenseman on their left side, so perhaps it isn't too surprising to hear that they want Leddy. The 30-year-old is a prime rental candidate from Detroit, as he has an expiring contract. Furthermore, with the Red Wings starting to fall out of the playoff race, it makes the possibility of them moving him even higher.
The Red Wings acquired Leddy from the New York Islanders during last offseason. In 47 games with the team so far, he has one goal to go along with 11 assists. Overall, it's been a little bit of a slow year for him offensively. Keep in mind, he did just have a 31-point campaign in 56 games with the Islanders last season. This fact is likely another reason why Boston is considering the possibility of adding him - he's capable of producing more.
The Bruins won't be the only team in on the Leddy sweepstakes, however. He has over 100 games of playoff experience and had some strong moments during them, too. When he's playing at his best, he's a very solid top-four defenseman. It will be intriguing to see where the veteran ends up, but it seems Boston is a real possibility.
