NHL Rumors: Calgary Flames Trade Interest Very Specific

According to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic, Calgary Flames general manager Brad Treliving has been a busy man working the phones trying to hunt down some secondary scoring from the trade market.

While the team is very happy with the top line and the production out of Matthew Tkachuk, Johnny Gaudreau and Elias Lindholm, they would love to get their hands on some scoring wingers who can play on the second line and potentially a third-line center option. 

One name that's been heavily linked is Claude Giroux of the Philadelphia Flyers who holds a full no-movement clause. There's also some other variables involved with Giroux as the Flyers captain is expected to play his 1000th game on March 17 and isn't likely going to be open to being dealt somewhere else before then. This would give teams four days between his game and the March 21 deadline. Giroux would be a great fit for the Flames as he can play down the middle and would likely start on the second line with Sean Monahan and Andrew Mangiapane. Certainly provides Calgary with some more secondary scoring.

Another name to watch is Tomas Hertl for the San Jose Sharks, Nick Paul of the Ottawa Senators and Tyler Toffoli of the Montreal Canadiens. At this point it's hard to gauge what exactly the Flames are willing to give up but they will have some options at either end of the spectrum. Should they want to land a big fish, they have the prospects/draft picks to do it.

Calgary currently sits with a 24-13-6 record on the season, good for a four point lead on the Dallas Stars for the second wild card spot. They have one of the best goalies in the league, play a defensive style, and are in need of some more offense. Treliving and company are hopeful they can deliver for the team before March 21.
