NHL Rumors: Canucks Interested In Bruins Top Prospect
The Boston Bruins are once again being linked to Vancouver Canucks forward Conor Garland. However, acquiring him may force them to send top prospect Fabian Lysell the other way, according to Jimmy Murphy of Boston Hockey Now.
Murphy noted that the Canucks are very interested in Lysell, and it isn't too hard to understand why. The Bruins just selected him with the 21st overall pick of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, and he's viewed as having a plethora of potential to be a top-six forward. He's currently playing for the WHL's Vancouver Giants, too, where he has 13 goals to go along with 19 assists. Thus, he's performing well in juniors and in close proximity to the Canucks.
Yet, would the Bruins be willing to part ways with him? They aren't known for having the strongest of prospect pools and trading away their best one wouldn't help with that. However, Garland would also be an immediate improvement to their forward group. In 41 games this season, he has 10 goals, 14 assists, and a plus-8 rating. Furthermore, with the Bruins also expressing interest in J.T. Miller, a hypothetical trade centering him would almost certainly have to include Lysell, too.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if the idea of trading Lysell scares the Bruins away from striking a deal with the Canucks. There is an argument to be had for this to be the case.
