NHL Rumors: Capitals Interested In Coyotes Forward

According to The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, the Washington Capitals are interested in Arizona Coyotes forward Travis Boyd.

This is a pretty interesting development, as Boyd was originally drafted by the Capitals and began his career with the team. In 85 games over three seasons with them, he had eight goals and 23 assists. His tenure in Washington ended after the 2019-20 season when he became a UFA.

Now, two years later, Boyd has been having a career-best season with the Coyotes. In 44 games thus far, he has 10 goals to go along with 14 helpers. Overall, he has been one of the team's biggest surprises, and he is proving that he is a legitimate NHL player. When looking at Washington's current roster, he could fit in nicely on their third line if acquired.

Boyd is making only $750,000 but has an expiring contract. Due to his play, he will be receiving a raise over the summer. This fact would likely mean he would be a rental for the Capitals if they added him. Still, though, it is worth at least considering how well he is doing.

In 188 career games between the Capitals, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks, and Coyotes, Boyd has 23 goals, 42 assists, and 65 points.
