NHL Rumors: Devils Looking To Upgrade At Specific Position

According to Pierre LeBrun, the New Jersey Devils are hoping to acquire a goaltender before the trade deadline passes.

It's been a difficult year for the team's goaltenders. Jonathan Bernier received hip surgery back in January and has been ruled out for the remainder of the year because of it. The veteran goaltender signed a two-year, $8.25 million contract with New Jersey during the offseason, but his time with the team obviously hasn't started off the way they both wanted. In 10 games, he had a 4-4-1 record, a .902 save percentage, and 3.06 goals-against average.

With that, MacKenzie Blackwood is currently out with a heel injury. In 23 appearances this season, he has a 9-9-3 record, 3.29 goals-against average, and .894 save percentage. It's once again been a down year for the 25-year-old. With this, the team could end up looking for an upgrade at the starting goaltender position.

For now, however, New Jersey will likely be looking for a cheap NHL-caliber goalie for the remainder of the season. One who specifically comes to mind who could be a fit is Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Kevin Lankinen.
