NHL Rumors: Devils To Trade Winger

New Jersey Devils forward Jimmy Vesey is another player we will likely see traded before the deadline passes, according to Frank Seravalli.

This isn't all that surprising, as he is one of New Jersey's rental candidates for this season. Although he never lived up to the previous hype that surrounded him, he is still a decent bottom-six or even depth forward. Thus, there could be a market for him once we get closer to the deadline passing.

Vesey has an extremely affordable contract, as he only carries an $800,000 cap hit. This aspect about him could also attract other teams, as it's hard to find too many depth forward making less money than him. This is especially true if they are dealing with a lot of injury trouble - which certainly tends to happen during the second half of the season.

In 44 games this season, Vesey has seven goals and six assists. Overall, that isn't too bad of production from a player of his role, so it wouldn't be surprising to see some teams end up targeting him.

The Devils gave a 17-26-5 record and are seventh in the Metropolitan Division. Therefore, the playoffs aren't happening this year, so it makes sense for them to trade away their pending UFAs and be sellers. A late-round pick for Vesey is better than nothing, so let's see what happens.
